Delight II

Limited edition carpet by Sultan Bin Fahad in collaboration with Iwan Maktabi. In this series, Bin Fahad honors familiar elements traditionally used during weddings and other celebrations.

Delights is inspired by a tin box of delights with inscriptions of prosperous wishes, historically offered to guests at weddings. The hands of the two families entwine to seal the promise of everlasting union, framed by rose petals, swirling lines and colored vines. It is a scene of unity and adoration, arm in arm.

Sultan bin Fahad is a Saudi prince and artist whose multidisciplinary practice delves into the layered textures of cultural identity. Working across sculpture, painting, fiber, and installation, he draws on Saudi Arabia’s eclectic material culture—flasks, prayer mats, chandeliers, wedding boxes, air conditioning units—objects both everyday and charged with meaning. His work thrives in contrast: the discarded and the divine, the sacred and the mundane, the broken and the beautiful. Scavenged artifacts are reassembled into compositions that hold the weight of history, reimagined in whimsical designs.
