Symbiotic Creatures: Stool

Sale price$3,500.00

Symbiotic Creatures is a collection of stools that reflects the relations between two entities in continuous exchange: a stool and a light, a vase, a growth and a creature. All echoing the need for the other and the quest for forming tactile bodily connections. The pieces become platforms for a familiar yet intimate bodily experience with the users, inviting their bodies to explore the act of sitting through a voyage of textures, exchanges and memories.

A body mutates into the other, or maybe merges with the other; two worlds come together in an uncanny relationship to create a collection of amorphous symbiotic objects feeding off one another. Naturally, we come to the world connected to our mothers' umbilical cord, and throughout time we develop several relations and dependencies both physically and emotionally.

Tamara Barrage is a Lebanese artist and designer based in Dubai. Her interest in materiality explores shapes that become materials, and materials that become shapes. Often threatening while revealing an overwhelming sense of fragility, her creations are creatures of another realm—both unfamiliar and, if one looks closely, all too familiar. Using experimental techniques, she explores how forms and textures provoke senses, manipulate emotions and articulate memories.
