A thought experiment in alien semiotics and the limits of language, meaning, and power. Far in the future on a distant colony, humans navigate relations with the Ariekei, beings whose unique Language can only be spoken by specially trained “ambassadors,” as a returning colonist becomes central to a crisis of meaning and power.
