Ataba عتبة is a threshold, a point of passage between one space and another. Drawing on the inherited geometries of Palestinian and Levantine architecture, these works transform a familiar form through repetition and movement. The arches echo like memory, altered though their passage yet still connected to their origin.

Sada / on Echoes is a solo show by Palestinian-American artist Charles Karim Aweida. His metal-woven sculptural bodies draw on the algorithms of an echo: resonance carried at a distance, separated from its origin yet bound to it. To live in the Palestinian diaspora is to know this distance intimately. The echo always remembers the voice that breathed it into life.

CHARLES KARIM AWIDA
Charles Karim Aweida is a Palestinian-American artist and roboticist exploring the intersection of science, engineering, visual arts and film. His work is focused on manipulating and transforming physicality through robotics and custom-actuated machines, driven by digital representations of the natural world.
Aweida has exhibited internationally, including at the Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates. Aweida holds a master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Colorado. He led computational design at Yazdani Studio in Los Angeles, working to advance the relationship between computation, fabrication, and the built environment.
Across his practice, Aweida explores the space between the organic and the engineered, asking what happens when the precision of the machine encounters the intention, emotion, memory, and imperfect gesture of the human hand. Beneath this inquiry is a desire to reveal something less tangible: the spiritual dimension of the natural world. By translating patterns of growth, movement, repetition, and transformation into physical form, his work seeks to create moments in which viewers can sense an underlying order beyond what is immediately visible, and reconnect with the mystery and presence embedded in nature.
